IUCPTA Sacramento Student Advocacy Trip

Juniors and Seniors!  Every year each Irvine High School, including Northwood High School, sponsors 5-6 students to take a trip to Sacramento. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 trip was a virtual conference.  However, the 2022 conference is scheduled to be an in-person trip to Sacramento and it will take place on Wednesday, March 16, 2022.

The purpose of the conference is to meet with state lawmakers and staff to express public education concerns and ideas, hear from a variety of experts on state education policy and network with IUSD students, administrators, and school board members. Students selected to attend the conference will go through several information gathering meetings with IUSD school leadership and will be expected to research on their own. This is an exciting opportunity!

If you are interested, please fill out two applications - application 1 and application 2 (including teacher recommendation) and return it to Principal Roach by January 5th, 2022 at 3p.m. Applications are also available in the front office.

Would You Like to Talk About Your Career @ NHS Lunchtime?

The career lunchtime speaker program gives students the availability to connect with different professionals and gain insight on the various industry occupations. This program provides NHS students exposure to a variety of career paths after high school, and the PTSA, with the help of NHS counseling department, began Lunchtime Career Speakers seven years ago. The career targets are based on interest data gathered from the students through Naviance, the counseling department, as well as various surveys conducted at PTSA events.

Lunchtime career presentations are done on a volunteer basis.  They are about half an hour, twice a month at the College and Career Center, from November through May. Students usually bring their lunch to the class to listen to the speaker while they eat.  The daily lunch times at NHS for 2021-2022 are around 12:05-12:45 pm.

Students are interested in knowing about your career, its path- academic requirements, day to day realities of the career, salary info, growth prospects, job satisfaction, different options available in the field, etc.  If you are available and interested in sharing your career with the students and/or need more information, please email  Thanks in advance for your consideration!
